The cruise control system is used to control the speed of the car just like we control the speed of the car by adjusting the accelerator. The SET/ACCEL are the knobs that set the speed of the car. It was invented in 1940 by James Watt a mechanical engineer before the creation of automobiles.

With just one tap it accelerates the car by 1mph, with two taps it accelerates by 2 mph, and so on. If you tap the knob in the opposite direction it decelerates the car.

How does adaptive cruise control work?

A few years back, Google launched its self-driving car that is completely dependent on Adaptive Cruise Control. The Google car contains approximately eight sensors. Following are the features of this car:-
- It has rotating roof-top Lidar
- Its camera uses an array of 32-64 lasers to measure the distance.
- It creates a 3D map at the range of 200m, to know about the hazards in front of the car.
- The camera monitors the nearby hazards such as pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and other hazards in front of the vehicle.
- The radar in the bumper of the car which is used for cruise control looks at the front and back of the vehicle.
- It contains the real mounted aerial antenna that receives the location from GPS satellites on the exterior side.
- The car contains the altimeters, gyroscopes, and a tachometer on the interior side for the measurements of the car’s position.
The above-mentioned sensors worked perfectly with unison and tell you the accurate location of the car which works well in place of safety reasons. Google also launched self-driving cars that are used over 7000,000 miles and their non-accidental rate is very high.
